:top_hat: It's the same type of event as a Renaissance Festival but it's for the steampunk genre. It's like Victorian retro-futurism.
:sewing_pin: Waltham Common. Accessible by transit including a shuttle from Alewife. See here.
:calendar: Saturday May 10, 10:00-17:00 I'll shoot for being there by 11AM.
I'll be with a meetup group but I'd be happy to have any of you join.
I can check this room for people looking for us. Though if nobody expresses interest ahead of time I might not check on the day.
It's bike-able for me. :bike: Please put me down as a maybe!
The pics from last year look fun: https://harkinsphotography.pixieset.com/watchcitysteampunkfestival2024/
No kidding, not a super short ride?
~45 min according to Organic Maps

yeah, something like that, 8 miles or so
Hoping for good weather. It may clear up more in the afternoon.
Maybe I should plan for that instead...
Well now the forecast flipped and it's more clear early on. It's anybody's game at this point :man_shrugging:
Probably not peak biking weather?
Ha. Too rainy. Maybe next year. Have fun!

This is always one of the coolest things. Built in Paris in 1897. (Most things at this fest aren't old like this)
They bring this every year though.
neat!
"The clock has wound down in Waltham as the city puts a new 4-hour time limit on public events held on the common.
This comes after Mayor Jeannette McCarthy’s office announced the regulation earlier this month and pointed to noise complaints and public safety concerns in the area for their decision to implement it.
The new time limit will exclude setup and cleanup time, as that will be determined by the city when permits are requested.
This has some upcoming events scratching their heads on what to do, just like the organizers of the Watch City Steampunk Festival, who say that they’re weighing their options when it comes to putting on their event this May 9th."
What a bunch of buzzkills.
The plan is 12:00-1600 this year. The theme is Attack of the Time Pirates. Because they stole the extra 3 hours. Next year they'll try for another location.
