Philip Durbin (Oct 08 2024 at 22:35): Philip Durbin (Oct 08 2024 at 22:35):Via @Harsh Kapadia Libre Boston is starting to have meetings again. Check this out for instance: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/events/303907720
Philip Durbin (Oct 25 2024 at 01:01):I just posted this under https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/discussions/
"Hi all, some friends and I host a little casual open source meetup at a bar in Brookline (Hamilton). We meet once a month on Sunday evenings, including this Sunday at 6. All are welcome! Please see https://bostonopen.dev "
Philip Durbin (Oct 25 2024 at 21:13):So far one reply: "Sounds fun, I will try to make it."
Philip Durbin (Nov 15 2024 at 12:57):They're meeting tonight at Grendel's. I just RSVP'ed: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/events/304537564
Philip Durbin (Nov 15 2024 at 22:42):Heading over now
Philip Durbin (Nov 16 2024 at 15:39):It was a good time! I think @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan can agree. There were at least 10 people there.
Philip Durbin (Nov 16 2024 at 15:39):It looks like their next meetup is Friday, Dec. 6: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/events/304537571/
Sooraj Sathyanarayanan (Nov 16 2024 at 15:40):I joined their Signal group - if you would like to join us there?
Philip Durbin (Nov 16 2024 at 15:42):Meh, I have enough communication apps on my phone already, but thanks. :grinning:
Sooraj Sathyanarayanan (Nov 16 2024 at 15:52):My quest to bring Phil on Signal continues…
Philip Durbin (Nov 16 2024 at 16:25):Ha. I used it for a couple years. I'm off and on with WhatApp, installing it when I'm in places where it's heavily used. Sometimes for conferences. I just don't like all these extra apps on my phone.
Dan (Dec 05 2024 at 18:20):I decided I'll come down for this on Friday. I'll come down for our meeting on Sunday as well, I just feel more up for coming to Boston this week.
Philip Durbin (Dec 05 2024 at 22:56):Oh, nice. I'm thinking about coming too.

Philip Durbin (Dec 08 2024 at 16:01):Thanks!
Philip Durbin (Dec 08 2024 at 16:02):It was a good time. Bummer I had to leave early but my family and I did have a good time at the MFA. We saw this: https://www.mfa.org/exhibition/georgia-okeeffe-and-henry-moore
Philip Durbin (Dec 30 2024 at 15:16):Another meetup on the 3rd: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/events/305160260/
Dan (Dec 30 2024 at 17:34):I will likely be there.
Andrea (Dec 31 2024 at 18:41):Just wondering, is it mainly a meetup about Internet in a Box?
Dan (Dec 31 2024 at 21:50):No the description on meetup is a little odd. But at least a couple people at the event are involved with Internet in a Box, including the main guy. It's a more activist flavoured group overall.
Dan (Dec 31 2024 at 21:54):But I found them to be very friendly.
Dan (Dec 31 2024 at 21:55):It's still open ended like our meetup.
Philip Durbin (Dec 31 2024 at 22:57):It was nice! Friendly folks hanging out in a bar. :beers:
Philip Durbin (Mar 21 2025 at 19:26):I'm planing on going to this tonight. Here's the link: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/events/305868023/
Philip Durbin (Mar 22 2025 at 02:13):Good times. Nice people.
Philip Durbin (May 17 2025 at 12:57):I attended their event the other day. The recorded it: https://archive.org/details/privacy-panopticons
Philip Durbin (May 29 2026 at 21:10):Heading to their meetup at Grendels tonight: https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/
Philip Durbin (May 30 2026 at 00:59):That was fun. Met some nice people. It was a combo meeting with a group called All Tech is Human: https://alltechishuman.org
Adrian (May 30 2026 at 04:01):oh damn, i think im on their email list or something. ATIH sounds cool, wish i could have gone to that
Philip Durbin (May 30 2026 at 12:26):It was a huge crowd! And I met one of developers behind the porchfest apps we noticed the other day. And he's interested in making use of the CarGurus space, as previously discussed.
Philip Durbin (May 30 2026 at 12:41):On a related note, I just kicked off (the porchfest app is built on AT Protocol) since they have local meetups.
