Our first meetup was in December 2022 so in December we're celebrating 3 years! Should we return to our roots at meet at Hamilton? 7pm? Sunday, December 14th or 21st? Other dates or times? What do you think?
For sure. I forgot that summer is over now.
Later is better for @Dave Hanft
Later is fine. I just meant that Summer was our exploring phase, so I'm happy to go back home to Hamilton.
Hamilton's sounds like a plan! I vote for Dec 14th. Anyone up for a fun Yankee Swap? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_elephant_gift_exchange
Ha! I love that idea. Let's do it!
And yeah, I was leaning toward Dec. 14th. What do you think everyone?
@Andrea @Autolux @CMD @Dan @Dave Hanft @Harry Pray IV @Ista Zahn @Jason Key @Jose Lucas Cordeiro @Maria Dolgareva @Michael @Milan Kupcevic @Nathan Adams @Ned Batchelder @Parthiv @Pete @Sai Dutt @Shane Curcuru @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan @Stone Chen @Tanmay Sharma @Tekktrik @Yamil Suarez @Xiaokang Fu @Zachary Liebl
Yeah that's margnially better than 21 for me.
If we do the swap let's be clear on guidelines. White elephant or actual cool gifts. Price range etc.
Or is price a faux pas to even bring up?
I assume @Dave Hanft meant cheap gifts, perhaps stuff that's taking up room in your storage space.
I like the idea of a theme. I for one have a basement full of little gadgets and electronic things. We can set a price limit if people want. Anyone have a good OSD or OSD adjacent theme?
I went ahead and updated https://bostonopen.dev to say we're meeting on Dec 14th at 7pm. See you there!
Ah, I just thought of something for the Yankee Swap, if I can find it! I think it's somewhere in my attic.
You didn't mention the swap on the website. Should I mention it on Signal and Mastodon? Should it be that if someone doesn't bring something they just don't partipate in the swap?
Oh, right. I forgot. Should I add something?
Yes, in my experience if you don't bring something you simply watch.
Ok, this is what I just put on the website:
"If you want, bring a small item of low value and participate in a Yankee swap! Otherwise, you're very welcome to simply watch the fun."
Please feel free to edit! @Dave Hanft I hope this works for you!
I added a link for the New England impaired.
Since we surely have people from all over, including me, though someone told me about Yankee swap before.
Thanks!
So! Who's coming on Sunday? How big of a table do we need? 7pm at Hamilton (map). Please give a  if you're at least considering being there. Thanks!

I only now posted on Mastodon
https://floss.social/@bostonopen/115704779243682590 looks great! Thanks!
Found it! The thing in the attic I was thinking of. Wrapped it up! :gift:
Does it need to be wrapped for the game?
Or in a bag at least

I’m gonna do a bag for mine
Ha, a bag is fine.
But like, is secrecy part of the game?
Well, whoever goes first (based on numbers out of hat) will pick from wrapped (or bagged) gifts. So yes, it's a secret.
I boosted our Mastodon post a couple hours ago and three people followed us. No interaction with the post. A bit odd.

54 followers! Nice!
Well are they bots?
I guess I could ask
The Yankee swap was fun!
@Philip Durbin lot's of fun good to see you and @Dan . Enjoyed the chat about the porchfest app. @Dan do you have this in a public repo? I got ideas and would love to clone and play around!
My repo is messed up

package corruption? haha
(I was worried for a second that my joke had horrible timing because you just asked about a git repo...)
As for the got repo yeah gimme a day or two if you could, I got a couple things due today.
That mug is looking good. I re-wrapped my gift and put it under my tree.
Who will be the lucky recipient?
It'll probably be a gift for the whole family. I didn't put a name on it.
It came from Santa
Oh you mean you didn't put a "to" name.
Or a "from" but everyone knows it's from me.
