https://libreplanet.org/2024/

Is anyone planning on submitting a talk? Is anyone going?

It was in person for the first time in a while last year. Pretty small, fewer than 100 people, but it was nice.

view this post on Zulip Harsh Kapadia (Sep 26 2023 at 06:03):

I unfortunately won't be in Boston then. Ugh. I had enjoyed last year and it was good meeting you there as well! Wasn't that where we met for the first time, Phil?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 26 2023 at 11:14):

Yes, exactly!

It'll be hosted at Wentworth: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/libreplanet-2024-may-4-and-5-wentworth-institute-of-technology-boston-ma

We could maybe have our May meetup on Sunday the 5th at the normal time and place. And list the event on the BOF page.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jan 03 2024 at 22:17):

Or we could pick a non-conflicting Sunday later in the month.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jan 03 2024 at 22:17):

Any preference? I know this is a while out! :grinning:

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 08 2024 at 15:20):

Oh it's in May this time. I guess the outdoor activities will be a little warmer.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 08 2024 at 15:21):

WIT vs MIT. I bet they have a lot of fun with that one.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 08 2024 at 15:25):

I was going to say 5PM sounds early but in March it was still light out when we headed outside for the Freedom Trail.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 08 2024 at 15:26):

But schedule aside I think having it be an after event sounds like a great idea.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 08 2024 at 15:28):

Not an awful train ride between the events.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jan 09 2024 at 00:11):

Well, WIT is on the E line and Hamilton is on the C line. Google Maps is suggesting the 66 bus.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 09 2024 at 19:53):

Even better

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jan 09 2024 at 19:53):

Assuming there are ticket booths nearby.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jan 09 2024 at 22:07):

Hmm, no idea.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 11 2024 at 01:00):

Yeah

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 11 2024 at 15:43):

We should probably decide on a plan soon right? As far as the meeting.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 11 2024 at 15:44):

Like where we want to list ourselves. I think we all wanted the meeting to coincide right?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 11 2024 at 15:44):

I'm just worried that next IRL meeting might be too late. But maybe it's not.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 11 2024 at 23:54):

No, you're right, we should decide soonish. What do you think? Meet twice in May or just once?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 11 2024 at 23:58):

Hmm, for #boston > 2024-04 meetup we already decided on April 28. We could also meet the next Sunday, May 5th, during LibrePlanet.

Or we could cancel that April 28th meetup and shift one week? Meet on May 5th instead? Skip April, basically?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 12 2024 at 00:15):

According to https://libreplanet.org/2024/program/ the conference ends on Sunday at 6pm.

I guess we could sneak out early to be at Hamilton by 5pm, like usual. :grinning:

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 12 2024 at 00:17):

Or we could, of course, head over to Hamilton later than usual, after the conference ends. Sort of an after party.

view this post on Zulip Jose Lucas Cordeiro (Apr 12 2024 at 17:34):

I will be attending too :D

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 12 2024 at 19:51):

I would personally vote for starting late / after party instead of leaving early.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 12 2024 at 19:52):

As for skipping April... Hmm

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 12 2024 at 19:53):

I think I'm personally agnostic. I could go either way. I'm curious what others think.

view this post on Zulip Jose Lucas Cordeiro (Apr 13 2024 at 01:23):

Personally i would check how many people would go to just the opendev meeting and not the convention. If there are many, i would not skip April. Otherwise it would be fine to skip it

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 13 2024 at 15:04):

Hamilton is so close to my house I don't mind going two weeks in a row. Dan's agnostic. I say we keep it.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 13 2024 at 15:08):

For the LibrePlanet after party on May 5th (Cinco de Mayo! :tada:) at Hamilton, how about 7pm? It should be plenty of time because the closing notes for LibrePlanet are at 6pm and Google says it only takes 36 minutes to walk there:

walk.png

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 13 2024 at 15:08):

That way, people can mill about at LibrePlanet for a while and won't be in a rush to get to Hamliton.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 13 2024 at 21:32):

Closing notes end at 6PM, so that's plenty of time.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Apr 13 2024 at 21:33):

Wasn't there also a bus or is that less reliable? And I wonder if people might have their nice looking shoes rather than walking friendly shoes.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 14 2024 at 10:48):

Whoops, yes, end at 6pm, that's what I meant

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Apr 14 2024 at 10:50):

Yes, there is also a bus

Yeah, I'm not seeing any cafes nearby.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (May 03 2024 at 01:33):

I wonder if they've arranged for any extra rooms at WIT.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 03 2024 at 14:45):

Someone in irc suggested to go to Fenway after hours. I'll be competing with a "walk" event.

view this post on Zulip Jose Lucas Cordeiro (May 03 2024 at 16:23):

Are you guys thinking in meeting up before the event tomorrow?

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 03 2024 at 17:29):

Well that would be pretty hard right? It starts at 10am or something.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 03 2024 at 17:29):

At any rate I won't be there earlier since I'm coming from NH.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (May 03 2024 at 21:45):

IRC as well. I wonder if the whole thing will be a flop?

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 04:04):

Okay I'm just gonna drive to WIT. There is free parking. And I just realized I've still been taking inefficient route to Brookline. I should take hwy 90, which also takes me to WIT. A little slower than going thru the city but probably faster than taking 2.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 04:04):

In which case I could drive to Hamilton.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 04:05):

Couter trains are just too much hassle unless it happens to work perfectly for your events.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 11:30):

Ours is the only Sunday after party, we're well positioned.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 11:30):

My BOF for Sandstorm is gonna be tough. Saturday night is a lot of competition. I'm leaning towards Sunday lunch.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 11:31):

People may not have arrived yet tho.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (May 04 2024 at 12:37):

Did you find a venue? You could just have Sandstorm people come to our Hamilton event.

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 14:01):

Just parked. Let's talk IRL. It's a good idea...

view this post on Zulip Dan (May 04 2024 at 16:43):

Okay Sandstorm BOF will be at Milkweed tomorrow:

https://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2024/BOF#Easy_self-hosted_web_apps_with_Sandstorm_(Lunch_chat)

Will try to coordinate walk via the Mastodon, linked there.

@Jose Lucas Cordeiro Seems like the main selling point of Trisqel is that it's based on Ubuntu rather than Debian. It's closer to the most popular distro, yet free. That said... It sounds like my Lenovo's WiFi card won't even work! Need a USB dongle. Quite a concession.
