Is anyone planning on submitting a talk? Is anyone going?
It was in person for the first time in a while last year. Pretty small, fewer than 100 people, but it was nice.
I unfortunately won't be in Boston then. Ugh. I had enjoyed last year and it was good meeting you there as well! Wasn't that where we met for the first time, Phil?
Yes, exactly!
The birds of a feature page is up. We COULD add our group to the list: https://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2024/BOF
It'll be hosted at Wentworth: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/libreplanet-2024-may-4-and-5-wentworth-institute-of-technology-boston-ma
We could maybe have our May meetup on Sunday the 5th at the normal time and place. And list the event on the BOF page.
Or we could pick a non-conflicting Sunday later in the month.
Any preference? I know this is a while out! :grinning:
Oh it's in May this time. I guess the outdoor activities will be a little warmer.
WIT vs MIT. I bet they have a lot of fun with that one.
I was going to say 5PM sounds early but in March it was still light out when we headed outside for the Freedom Trail.
But schedule aside I think having it be an after event sounds like a great idea.
Not an awful train ride between the events.
Well, WIT is on the E line and Hamilton is on the C line. Google Maps is suggesting the 66 bus.
Even better
Assuming there are ticket booths nearby.
Hmm, no idea.
The FSF is emailing about social activities surrounding LP
I've been snowed under. Just returning from Germany where I met a lot of free software folks.
I see. This: https://www.fsf.org/blogs/community/there-are-plenty-of-ways-to-socialize-at-libreplanet-2024-cultivating-community
Yeah
We should probably decide on a plan soon right? As far as the meeting.
Like where we want to list ourselves. I think we all wanted the meeting to coincide right?
I'm just worried that next IRL meeting might be too late. But maybe it's not.
No, you're right, we should decide soonish. What do you think? Meet twice in May or just once?
Hmm, for #boston > 2024-04 meetup we already decided on April 28. We could also meet the next Sunday, May 5th, during LibrePlanet.
Or we could cancel that April 28th meetup and shift one week? Meet on May 5th instead? Skip April, basically?
According to https://libreplanet.org/2024/program/ the conference ends on Sunday at 6pm.
I guess we could sneak out early to be at Hamilton by 5pm, like usual. :grinning:
Or we could, of course, head over to Hamilton later than usual, after the conference ends. Sort of an after party.
I will be attending too :D
I would personally vote for starting late / after party instead of leaving early.
As for skipping April... Hmm
I think I'm personally agnostic. I could go either way. I'm curious what others think.
Personally i would check how many people would go to just the opendev meeting and not the convention. If there are many, i would not skip April. Otherwise it would be fine to skip it
Hamilton is so close to my house I don't mind going two weeks in a row. Dan's agnostic. I say we keep it.
For the LibrePlanet after party on May 5th (Cinco de Mayo! :tada:) at Hamilton, how about 7pm? It should be plenty of time because the closing notes for LibrePlanet are at 6pm and Google says it only takes 36 minutes to walk there:
That way, people can mill about at LibrePlanet for a while and won't be in a rush to get to Hamliton.
Closing notes end at 6PM, so that's plenty of time.
Wasn't there also a bus or is that less reliable? And I wonder if people might have their nice looking shoes rather than walking friendly shoes.
Whoops, yes, end at 6pm, that's what I meant
Yes, there is also a bus
Ok, I went ahead and updated the website. How does this look? https://github.com/bostonopen/bostonopen.github.io/commit/ef19aa675b2e0823e7bc4e01d0fee8bd7b84101b
Or you can see it here, of course: https://bostonopen.dev
If it looks ok, I figure we can update https://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2024/BOF and link to it.
Ok, I just added our event here: https://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2024/BOF#Sunday_Night_Meetup_with_Boston_Open_Dev
Here's how it looks:
Screenshot-2024-04-14-at-7.56.59-PM.png
If anything looks off, please feel free to fix it (it's a wiki) or let me know and I can.
I went ahead and announced this as our May meetup at #boston > 2024-05 meetup
For the Wiki entry, I don't know why the template doesn't have a Time field but maybe you should add that. Some listed events here do. Makes it easier to find than reading the description.
Good idea. Added.

Nice toot!
I just registered for LibrePlanet!
I registered a few days ago.
I'm going to look into making a BOF for Sandstorm as well. Just have to find a good time.
I just updated https://libreplanet.org/wiki/LibrePlanet:Conference/2024/BOF#Sunday_Night_Meetup_with_Boston_Open_Dev to link to https://floss.social/@bostonopen
I'm trying to find a time / space for my Snadstorm BOF. I'm not familiar with WIT. It doesn't look like there's a cafe nearby right?
That's open late anyway
BTW I'll likely have to head out from Hamilton at 9 to catch the last train out unless I switch travel plans.
For Sunday
Or I could just drive as usual. The timing of all of this just sucks.
Yeah, I'm not seeing any cafes nearby.
I wonder if they've arranged for any extra rooms at WIT.
Someone in irc suggested to go to Fenway after hours. I'll be competing with a "walk" event.
Are you guys thinking in meeting up before the event tomorrow?
Well that would be pretty hard right? It starts at 10am or something.
At any rate I won't be there earlier since I'm coming from NH.
How early were you thinking? I need my beauty sleep.
The Mastodon hashtag is sadly quiet. Hopefully it'll act up tomorrow.
IRC as well. I wonder if the whole thing will be a flop?
Okay I'm just gonna drive to WIT. There is free parking. And I just realized I've still been taking inefficient route to Brookline. I should take hwy 90, which also takes me to WIT. A little slower than going thru the city but probably faster than taking 2.
In which case I could drive to Hamilton.
Couter trains are just too much hassle unless it happens to work perfectly for your events.
Ours is the only Sunday after party, we're well positioned.
My BOF for Sandstorm is gonna be tough. Saturday night is a lot of competition. I'm leaning towards Sunday lunch.
People may not have arrived yet tho.
Did you find a venue? You could just have Sandstorm people come to our Hamilton event.
Just parked. Let's talk IRL. It's a good idea...
Okay Sandstorm BOF will be at Milkweed tomorrow:
Will try to coordinate walk via the Mastodon, linked there.
But I'll invite them to Hamilton as well. Assuming I don't forget.
I'm at the members meeting but no sign of pizza or any food. :worried:
Where are you two headed?

Ali's Roti ^^
really good!
Oops, we didn't see this. We had a bit of an adventure. We went to Isabella's but the cafe there was closed. We ended up at Campus Pizza, I think it's called. It had other grill type stuff. Was good.
And cheap
I'm back in the same room where the members meeting was. There's leftover pizza. Oh well. I had a good walk on a gorgeous day and I highly recommend Ali's Roti. :grinning:
Oh man
485289cb-e06c-4feb-a8cb-d4371591c741.jpg Happy birthday Trisquel Linux ...
I think there's way more cake than people can eat. It's vegan.
@Philip Durbin I'll get the juggling stuff after the next talk so we can go onto the lawn right at 18:00? And then maybe join the walk at 18:35 if we want.
@Jose Lucas Cordeiro Seems like the main selling point of Trisqel is that it's based on Ubuntu rather than Debian. It's closer to the most popular distro, yet free. That said... It sounds like my Lenovo's WiFi card won't even work! Need a USB dongle. Quite a concession.
https://mastodon.social/@ill_logic/112385932390562775 I boosted it with our group account
Congratulations! :tada: :trophy: for @Dan
My daughter won her race!
IMG_20240505_100413650.jpg
Just about to pull in.
I'm back home from the race. Chilling with the family for now. Plotting when to return.
Unfortunately, it looks like it's going to rain when I plan to walk people from LibrePlanet to Hamilton.
Damn. Well I can drive four people if they cram in the back seat.
Helping with homework. The Odyssey.
And a paper on Galileo.
Oh you won't be at LP until later then?
Sandstorm lightning talk went decently.
Nice. I'm finally leaving the house. Will be there in a while.
I had to leave at lunch to solve some
Issues
Two folks showed up at the Sandstorm BOF. I forgot to mention tonight's event to one of them. I'll run into him again.
The Neptune thing has some weird thing asking me to log in. Instead I went to my car for a half hour power nap :muscle::sleeping:
@Dan thanks for posting https://floss.social/@bostonopen/112390577241152510
We thought it would be just four or five of us who already planned on coming. Then we got seven people from LibrePlanet trickling in.
We forgot the golden rule: people don't come on time
https://floss.social/@bostonopen/112391629552015967
Parked at home at the tail end of 11:59
This guy wasn't there right? https://mastodon.social/@jxself Dave was asking on Mastodon.
I don't believe so, no
