For November, what if we meet up and then optionally go to see Bit Brigade at Brighton Music Hall? They go on at 6:30pm on Nov. 23rd: https://crossroadspresents.com/pages/more-info-event?eventid=vv168vNeoQeZ757Fe&venueid=KovZpapwne
The show is called Bit Brigade & Galactic Empire Plays Mega Man X
Here they are playing Flashman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KkO6rTDe0bI
I think I've seen them four times. In large part because of a video music game festival in San Jose. Actually one year I think they played two different days so maybe the count is five.
So is that a yes? You're in?
It depends on my Thanksgiving schedule.
right, right
In general I struggle to find people into the weird shit I'm into so scheduling aside I'm definitely in.

My own recording of them.
Damn $36 tho. Also not a fan of Ticketmaster. I may see about getting a ticket in person ahead of time?
But I'll be in town.
Nice. Oh, I hadn't thought of that, trying to get a ticket in person.
I wonder how much the Ticketmaster fee is. I can't easily tell.
I think last time they asked for my phone number and that was enough for me to get irritated and drive all the way to Portland to buy my ticket in person. Maybe I can stop there on Saturday on the way to WIT.
Cool, please lemme know if it works out. Also, if you see any bars near there you like, we could have the meetup there before the show.
So! I just updated the website to propose that for Sunday, Nov 23rd we meet at Silhouette Lounge (Google Maps) at 4pm.
Then anyone who's interested can proceed to see Bit Brigade at Brighton Music Hall (Google Maps) at 6:30pm.
What do you think?!? @Andrea @Autolux @CMD @Dan @Dave Hanft @Harry Pray IV @Ista Zahn @Jason Key @Jose Lucas Cordeiro @Maria Dolgareva @Michael @Milan Kupcevic @Nathan Adams @Ned Batchelder @Parthiv @Pete @Sai Dutt @Shane Curcuru @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan @Stone Chen @Tanmay Sharma @Tekktrik @Yamil Suarez @Xiaokang Fu @Zachary Liebl
I picked Silhouette somewhat randomly. I've never been inside but I've driven by in a thousand times. If people want to meet somewhere else, that's fine.
I also picked 4pm arbitrarily as well. We can adjust as needed. Go make a pull request!
It turns out you can stop by the Paradise Rock Club to buy tickets for Brighton Music Hall, which I did this afternoon.
The cost was $28.50, so less than the $36.50 shown when you click through the links above.
However, the email still comes from Ticketmaster and I was told I can put the tickets in my Apple wallet (which I don't have) or the Ticketmaster app (which I also don't have). Hopefully they work with Google wallet. I also asked about a physical ticket but was told they haven't had those for four years.
Anyway, hope this helps!
wtf I have to get one of these bloody apps to see a concert?
Can they at least email me a QR code?
When I click the "add to Google Wallet" button: "Something went wrong on our end and we need to start over."
I guess I'll try again later.
The don't email you a QR code. The email says this:
"Your Phone Is Your Ticket. To access your mobile tickets on event day, tap View and Use Mobile Tickets above. When you arrive you’ll simply scan your tickets right from your phone for entry.
This email is not your ticket."
Sorry this is such a pain. I had no idea.
Well "View and Use Mobile Tickets" could just point to a web page?
I think that's pretty normal, and I'm fine with it.
I emailed them to find out.
Wow, it seems like everyone uses Ticketmaster because they straight up own all of the big venues. That's insane.
I got an answer from them that only half makes sense. I guess I'll try to buy one next time I'm around. It sort of sounds like I can use a a government ID to redeem my ticket, worst case?
Did they require your phone number when you bought the ticket IRL? That's one reason I didn't want to use Ticketmaster's website. Not that I'm that worried about my phone number it just seemed unnecessarily intrusive for a stupid concert.
In person they said a phone number was optional but once I got to the Tickermaster website to try to get my ticket I had to provide it.
Who knew this concert would be such an exercise in losing one's privacy!
Actually, maybe Eventbrite has been asking my phone number this whole time...
I'm just biased against Ticketmaster
Wow, lots to read here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ticketmaster#Criticism_and_controversies
"The Don Law Company is now Crossroads Presents and still prominent players in the Boston music scene as owners of The Paradise, the Orpheum Theater, House of Blues Boston, and the Brighton Music Hall in partnership with Live Nation" -- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise_Rock_Club
(Ticketmaster is owned by Live Nation.)
I think my default plan is to just hope it's not sold out and buy at the door.
ha, ok
I just updated the website to make the proposed plan the actual plan. Please lemme know if you think we should change anything!
Good news! I didn't have to install the Ticketmaster app on my phone! I was able to add my tickets to Google Wallet. :tada:
Hmm. But you needed Google Wallet?
Yeah, one or the other.
