When and where should we meet for September?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 19 2025 at 18:54):

Would you be okay with the Bow Market Afternoon Hack this month?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 19 2025 at 18:55):

I'm gonna throw out some ideas in that topic.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 19 2025 at 22:14):

Sure!

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 19 2025 at 23:06):

How do others feel about the idea?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 22 2025 at 01:28):

Who prefers a normal meetup?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 25 2025 at 14:01):

Okay let's go for Bow Market Afternoon Hack.

We have one particularly interested party on Signal who can't do 14 so I'm leaning against that.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 25 2025 at 19:12):

Oh and time. Let's say 2PM? Negotiable if people have particular requests.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 26 2025 at 00:21):

Sure, 2pm is fine.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 26 2025 at 00:21):

Also, I just updated https://bostonopen.dev to say we're meeting at Bow Market. Should be fun!

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 28 2025 at 14:58):

21st is winning rn. I'll call it within a day or two.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 29 2025 at 17:30):

Okay let's go with 21st!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 29 2025 at 17:40):

Sounds good! I just updated the website. Please feel free to make further edits.

The 21st is coming right up! Let's ping everyone.

Please give a  if you're at least thinking about coming! https://bostonopen.dev has the details, but here they are:

In September we’re meeting at Bow Market for some afternoon hacking! Optionally, you can RSVP in the discussion thread. There are several options for a bite, and there’s coffee and beer at Remnant Brewing!

Bring a laptop. All you need are git, ssh, and a browser. We’ll be working on “a better Porchfest map”. See the discussion thread for details on the project. (Or you can just come and hang out!)

Bow Market is a zoo today, with the Marshmallow Fluff festival and all

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 21 2025 at 12:43):

I was just told about this the other day. Thankfully it did not rain yesterday, today was supposed to be the raid date!

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 21 2025 at 12:43):

You went to the fest?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 21 2025 at 12:43):

On purpose?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 21 2025 at 12:53):

Ha, yes, my daughter and I walked around a bit. Here's the website: https://www.flufffestival.com

It's funny, we also saw a sign for the rodeo but there's only so much you can do! https://www.bostonrodeo.com

The main thing we went to yesterday was cliff diving: https://www.icaboston.org/events/red-bull-cliff-diving-world-series/

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 21 2025 at 12:53):

Anyway, yes, good thing that fluff rain date isn't happening!

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 21 2025 at 16:10):

See this is why I was relieved to leave the city once upon a time. Too many things to do.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 21 2025 at 17:15):

Heading out! See you soon! :bike:

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 21 2025 at 17:49):

We're just inside Remnant. Come inside and turn left.

What a great event. Thanks for organizing, @Dan!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 21 2025 at 22:59):

I got doored biking home but I'm ok.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 22 2025 at 01:42):

Holy crap

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 22 2025 at 11:45):

Yeah. I landed in the middle of the street but nothing was coming, thankfully. My arm hurts where I got kind of stabbed by the door but it could be worse.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 22 2025 at 14:02):

You cool with me adding it as a repo to the bostonopen account? I may have the ability already.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 22 2025 at 21:06):

Yep, you're an owner. Go for it!

view this post on Zulip Sid Govindan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:22):

Hope youre doing ok, @Philip Durbin and thanks for organizing the recent event @Dan!

Can you share the git repo info? Would be great to see the latest!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 22:26):

Yeah, I'm fine. At work today I asked a guy if he wants to see my new tattoo and rolled up my sleeve to show off my bruise.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 22:27):

Also, if you switch to master and pull the latest, you'll see your contribution, which was great.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:29):

And also you can look at the site, it's still there on master. http://66.228.40.225/master/ The light items are venues that don't have any more shows for the day. (It makes me a little nervous, it looks like it would be confusing).

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:30):

I want to try playing with the colors.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 22:31):

We should probably switch from master to main. (Not that I've pushed for this yet at my day job.)

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:32):

I'm not a fan of that myself.

view this post on Zulip Sid Govindan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:32):

Very cool. Thanks for sharing

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 22:34):

What? Switching to main? Seems harmless since we're just starting. And it's the default when you init a repo in recent releases of git. Or if you create a new repo on GitHub.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:45):

Yeah I think the switch was more about an ideological pressure campaign than "master" actually upsetting anyone.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 22:48):

Yeah, probably. But who knows. Maybe someone was upset.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Sep 24 2025 at 22:51):

Anyway, with that rant aside, I'll happily go by the group's standard if it's on the group Github account.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 23:39):

Our other three repos all use main so thanks.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 24 2025 at 23:40):

I'm pretty excited about having our first project! We'll have to post a note to #boston > Boston Open Dev Project once it's up.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Sep 26 2025 at 11:45):

Or we could call the default branch "develop" and use "main" for releases, git-flow style. That's what we do at work.
