When and where should we meet in August?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jul 27 2025 at 14:41):

One idea is to bring laptops and hack on stuff. #boston > Afternoon hack meetup @ 💬

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jul 27 2025 at 15:10):

I must say that August is looking pretty busy for me. Everyone should feel free to meet without me, of course, but let me go through the weekends:

I guess I'll do my normal voting thing. Please give a  if you like any of these days (vote for as many as you want):

If YOU have a date in mind one than those three, please feel free to suggest it. I don't have to be at every meetup. I missed one a year or so ago and you all had fun without me.

Thanks!

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Jul 31 2025 at 01:33):

Hmm. Not a lot of votes so far. Another option would be crashing the Boston Python meetup the evening of Wed, Aug 27: https://www.meetup.com/bostonpython/events/308729723/

view this post on Zulip Dan (Jul 31 2025 at 01:34):

Sorry been out of town catching up on stuff. Will look at calendar and vote soon.

No worries

view this post on Zulip Milan Kupcevic (Aug 02 2025 at 17:23):

August 9th is Debian Trixie release date. How about adding our Aug 9th or 10th meetup place to https://wiki.debian.org/ReleasePartyTrixie ?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 02 2025 at 18:43):

10th is winning as of now (I finally voted) so I like this Trixie idea

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:16):

Nice to see some votes! Yes, Sunday the 10th seems to work for everyone who voted, even for other days, so let's go with it.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:17):

And yes, let's list our event on the Debian wiki. Sounds good.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:17):

Where and what time should we meet?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:18):

Our default is Hamilton at 7pm

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:18):

There's also the afternoon hack meetup, probably at Bow Market. See #boston > Afternoon hack meetup

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:20):

Here's something new and off the wall. We could crash this afternoon video game meetup in Malden: https://www.meetup.com/the-multiplayer-museum/events/310115055/

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:20):

We've talked about meeting at the Esplanade. See #boston > Night Shift Esplanade

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 19:20):

Other ideas?

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 02 2025 at 20:28):

I don't think the Debian thing would match well with crashing a video game meetup. Though otherwise that does sound like a cool plan.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 02 2025 at 20:31):

For Esplanade - I think you recently came to believe that it wouldn't work so well logistically. Do you recall this? Probably the issue would be that we'd all have to show up at once?

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 02 2025 at 20:56):

Yeah, the Esplanade seems a little better for folks who arrive together since I've seen long lines. Plus, I could be wrong but I don't think there are a lot of food options. I dunno, we could try it, if you want.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 02 2025 at 21:44):

If we get into two groups in line would it still be possible to find each other at the table?

view this post on Zulip Milan Kupcevic (Aug 02 2025 at 22:39):

How about https://www.grendelsden.com/

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 02 2025 at 22:41):

That's kind of the usual hang of the Libre Boston meetup. And an older FOSS meetup too, I suppose.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 03 2025 at 12:09):

Right, no objection to Grendel's, that meetup was the original inspiration, but if we meet there I'd prefer the early side (5pm or before) so I can bike home when it's still light. (Of course, I could get out my bike lights or take the bus.)

view this post on Zulip Milan Kupcevic (Aug 03 2025 at 15:15):

5pm sounds good to me.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 03 2025 at 18:02):

Me too. @Dan @Tanmay Sharma @Dave Hanft (and anyone), how does 5pm at Grendel's Den in Harvard Square on Sunday, Aug 10th sound?

(Hmm, I just noticed "Half Price Hours 5pm-7:30pm" on https://www.grendelsden.com  !)

@Dan I know you were also thinking about some afternoon hacking.

@Dave Hanft this is probably a bit early for you.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 03 2025 at 18:05):

You mean Bow market or in general? tbh I feel like maybe we could wait a month or two for Bow Market.

view this post on Zulip Dan (Aug 03 2025 at 18:06):

And I have something late this Saturday so giving me time on Sunday to make my way down seems somewhat appealing.

view this post on Zulip Philip Durbin (Aug 03 2025 at 18:08):

Sure, no rush on Bow Market.

Yes a bit early for me. But I will see what I can do!

This works for me. I'll also bring my laptop just in case we decide to do the hack thing :)
