When and where should we meet in August?
One idea is to bring laptops and hack on stuff.
I must say that August is looking pretty busy for me. Everyone should feel free to meet without me, of course, but let me go through the weekends:
I guess I'll do my normal voting thing. Please give a  if you like any of these days (vote for as many as you want):
Sat, Aug 9th
Sun, Aug 10th
Sun, Aug 17th
If YOU have a date in mind one than those three, please feel free to suggest it. I don't have to be at every meetup. I missed one a year or so ago and you all had fun without me.
@Andrea @Autolux @CMD @Dan @Dave Hanft @Harry Pray IV @Ista Zahn @Jason Key @Jose Lucas Cordeiro @Maria Dolgareva @Michael @Milan Kupcevic @Nathan Adams @Ned Batchelder @Parthiv @Pete @Sai Dutt @Shane Curcuru @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan @Stone Chen @Tanmay Sharma @Tekktrik @Yamil Suarez @Xiaokang Fu @Zachary Liebl please vote for a day in August above or suggest other days! Thanks!
Hmm. Not a lot of votes so far. Another option would be crashing the Boston Python meetup the evening of Wed, Aug 27: https://www.meetup.com/bostonpython/events/308729723/
Sorry been out of town catching up on stuff. Will look at calendar and vote soon.
No worries
August 9th is Debian Trixie release date. How about adding our Aug 9th or 10th meetup place to https://wiki.debian.org/ReleasePartyTrixie ?
10th is winning as of now (I finally voted) so I like this Trixie idea
Nice to see some votes! Yes, Sunday the 10th seems to work for everyone who voted, even for other days, so let's go with it.
And yes, let's list our event on the Debian wiki. Sounds good.
Where and what time should we meet?
Our default is Hamilton at 7pm
There's also the afternoon hack meetup, probably at Bow Market. See #boston > Afternoon hack meetup
Here's something new and off the wall. We could crash this afternoon video game meetup in Malden: https://www.meetup.com/the-multiplayer-museum/events/310115055/
We've talked about meeting at the Esplanade. See #boston > Night Shift Esplanade
Other ideas?
I don't think the Debian thing would match well with crashing a video game meetup. Though otherwise that does sound like a cool plan.
For Esplanade - I think you recently came to believe that it wouldn't work so well logistically. Do you recall this? Probably the issue would be that we'd all have to show up at once?
Yeah, the Esplanade seems a little better for folks who arrive together since I've seen long lines. Plus, I could be wrong but I don't think there are a lot of food options. I dunno, we could try it, if you want.
If we get into two groups in line would it still be possible to find each other at the table?
How about https://www.grendelsden.com/
That's kind of the usual hang of the Libre Boston meetup. And an older FOSS meetup too, I suppose.
Right, no objection to Grendel's, that meetup was the original inspiration, but if we meet there I'd prefer the early side (5pm or before) so I can bike home when it's still light. (Of course, I could get out my bike lights or take the bus.)
5pm sounds good to me.
Me too. @Dan @Tanmay Sharma @Dave Hanft (and anyone), how does 5pm at Grendel's Den in Harvard Square on Sunday, Aug 10th sound?
(Hmm, I just noticed "Half Price Hours 5pm-7:30pm" on https://www.grendelsden.com  !)
@Dan I know you were also thinking about some afternoon hacking.
@Dave Hanft this is probably a bit early for you.
You mean Bow market or in general? tbh I feel like maybe we could wait a month or two for Bow Market.
And I have something late this Saturday so giving me time on Sunday to make my way down seems somewhat appealing.
Sure, no rush on Bow Market.

Yes a bit early for me. But I will see what I can do!
Yeah it's fine for me.

This works for me. I'll also bring my laptop just in case we decide to do the hack thing :)
Great! I just updated https://bostonopen.dev with the plan!
See you there! Feel free to  if you're at least a maybe!

Okay I just tooted about that as well.
Looks great! Thanks to both!
I posted about our meetup over at https://www.meetup.com/desktop-linux-users-group/
And at https://bostonpython.slack.com
Holt echoed it on the Libre Boston Signal channel
I want to recognize that it's cool that Grendel's is named after a Beowulf character.

"Wish I could have attended the @bostonopen in MA on Sunday" ... love it!
@Milan Kupcevic Looks like your posting brought in 4 new people to the Signal chat. It feels like this is bringing a lot of people this month.
Today's the day! See you at 5 at Grendel's! https://bostonopen.dev
One more joined the Signal chat, and one Mastodonian who found us through the Debian wiki says they're coming tonight.
I brought my black GNU hat IMG_20250810_165508223.jpg
We're indoors. Come inside and look to your left!
14 people so far!
