How does Sunday October 27th at 6pm sound? Please give a  if that might work for you.
I'd prefer not to do Oct 19-20 because I'll be a single parent that weekend. And the the weekend before, Oct 12-13, is a three day weekend so my family and I might travel.
Please feel free to suggest other days and times, of course. If I can't make it, I'll catch you folks in November. :grinning:
Please vote on Oct 27 or suggest other times. I'd like to update https://bostonopen.dev soon. Thanks. @Andrea @Autolux @August Radjoe @Dan @Ista Zahn @Jason Key @Jose Lucas Cordeiro @Milan Kupcevic @Pete @Sai Dutt @Stone Chen @Yamil Suarez
Hello. I am a young person interested in coming to your next meetup. My name is Zachary Liebl and I showed up at one of your meetings the night after LibrePlanet. For this upcoming meeting, I will invite maybe 5-6 of my friends who are also interested in FOSS. I can't make it on the 27, can we do the 26 or the 25? I prefer the 25 but I can make it either day. Respond with :+1: for the 25 and  for the 26. Or I guess respond to Philip's comment if you want the 27.
Sorry @Philip Durbin I'm just trying to sort out my month's plans. Will try to answer today.
@Zachary Liebl That's awesome that you have so many interested friends! The thing is we have thus far always met on a Sunday. Is Sunday generally a bad day for you?
@Dan Sunday is a great day for me normally. It is just that Sunday the 27 I will be out of state. I could do Sunday the 20 if that works for everyone.
@Zachary Liebl I do remember a bunch of people coming after LibrePlanet. I'm glad you're coming, with friends!
I see @Dan gave a  to the 27th so it's awfully tempting to just declare that date as the winner. And like Dan said, we've always done Sunday nights, so far.
As I mentioned above, Sunday the 20th is tricky for me because my wife is traveling and I might need to help our daughter with homework or whatever.
@Dan and @Andrea how do you feel about the 20th? Again, I might not be there but that's ok, if the rest of you all want to meet then.
27th or 20th work for me
Well, that's enough for me to say the 20th is fine. @Dan do you have a preference for a time? 6pm?
6 or later is fine. I might add that one person on Signal can do 27 but not 20.
Then maybe the 27 is best. I will just not be there. But I will be at LibreBoston on the 18th . Libreboston and these Open Dev meetups are largely the same thing so maybe it does not make sense to schedule them 2 days apart. Maybe we can get some cross-pollination of people to both events?
@Zachary Liebl yes! Libre Boston is back! I posted about it here: #boston > Libre Boston
Some cross-pollination would be great. I do recognize some of the members from LibrePlanet.
Anyway, it sounds like we're fairly settled on the 27th.
@Zachary Liebl you can send your friends our way even if you can't make it!
Ok, I updated the website.
Oct 27 at 6pm. See you there! https://bostonopen.dev
@Dan remind me to bring you your bike locks :grinning: :locked: :locked: :bike:

There's also Grendel's. The meetup at Hamilton is designed to be early enough that you can go to both. But I should check with Martin to see if they're still happening.
Martin says meetings at Grendel's are still happening every so often.
Okay it's on Mastodon
Looks great! Thanks! https://floss.social/@bostonopen/113289919846592765
Sunday at 6pm at Hamilton! https://bostonopen.dev
Please give a  if you think you might make it so we know how big of a table to get.
If we don't see you, have a good weekend!

Whoops, plus new people that have joined Zulip recently. Sorry, @Parthiv
And @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan
Today's the day! See you at 6! Get out and enjoy the sun while you can!
I'm close.
1.1 miles. So probably 15 minutes :-D
I found a parking spot but the nearby cars have tickets. Sorry I'm gonna move.
Hopefully there soon.
Since @Sooraj Sathyanarayanan mentioned this IRL:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/chinese-hack-telecommunications-companies-investigation-nsa-chief-says-rcna174208 what I brought up
"Telecommunications firms have a legal obligation to allow federal authorities to have access to electronic information if there is a court order for the eavesdropping. If China penetrated the wiretapping system, it would be a serious security breach."
Something came up last minute, hopefully gonna join you people next month!
Guix - building from source "all the way down" https://guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2023/the-full-source-bootstrap-building-from-source-all-the-way-down/
@Parthiv no worries! There's always next time.
Nice seeing everyone! Thanks for taking a pic, @Dan. I added it to the site: https://bostonopen.dev
Let's talk about when to meet in November over at #boston > 2024-11 meetup
I wish I actually understood the guix trust thing. At the end of the day unless you're starting on an OS that you manually poked into existence by toggling switches, you can't build the OS. The kernel you're running could itself be suspect.
To say nothing of the hardware, let's pretend there's no issue there.
I mean, https://guix.gnu.org/en/blog/2023/the-full-source-bootstrap-building-from-source-all-the-way-down/ does look like they're starting off at quite a low level. Plenty low for me, I'd say. :grinning:
Well sure. But at that point why not just trust the compiler?
Like why would you trust the kernel more than the compiler?
Hmm, I dunno. I'm probably too trusting. :grinning:
